Alaska Trips Menk-Less Ginebra

How hard is it for Ginebra to play without Eric "Major Pain" Menk? Especially when they are dealing with Alaska, whose players are way too big than the Kings. Eric was sidelined last night in the Semifinals Game 2 when he re-injured himself with a pulled groin and veteran guard Celino Cruz, also in the injured list when he twisted his ankle. Both players, were seen in casual wear last night. The answer, very hard. It was difficult to watch, really. They lost, 90-82 and the series is now at 0-2.

Although, i must commend the other players who stepped up last night and tried really hard to help the team win. Kevyn White, yeah, the guy wearing jersey number 5, Ginebra's rookie, contributed 7pts, that includes a 3-pointer. Then after a number of attempts, Jayjay Helterbrand finally made it, fired a 3-pointer. Other players who almost sparked were, Mark Caguioa, Ronald Tubid, Willie Wilson, Cyrus Baguio, Billy Mamaril, and Sunday Salvacion. Too bad the team, despite all efforts didn't make it, leaving the crowd shocked and glued to their seats. What more can we say but, "bawi na lang next game" (let's get even next game) and, "never say die!" Hopefully, tomorrow, Ginebra is able to finally get that supernatural favor from Him. It has always been hard when you have an unhealthy lineup. Most especially when your team is Caguioa-less and Helterbrand-less and hefty Junthy Valenzuela is sidelined by an injury. Good thing it's not always just about having healthy and fit players, but sometimes, you know, having an ALLY is really what everthing is all about. If you keep on believing in Him, if you never lose your faith, if you never say die.. If, everything seems to be hopeless but you just keep your faith, you keep your fingers crossed, you keep cheering and fighting for what you believe in, then, there's a prize. And that is what we, the fans of the most popular team in town is holding on to. We started strong, first quarter of the deciding Quarterfinals Game 5 match versus Talk N Text Tropang Texters, the players never lose their focus on their gameplan, they keep their presence of mind. Each rebound means everything. Every basket attempt is like one precious ball of prophecy. Until the last 2 minutes of the game, the GinKings keep their composure, they played with their hearts, they played it big. And that is why from 0-1, 0-2, 1-2, 2-2, we now move forward to Semifinals of the 2010 KFC-PBA Philippine Cup. Good job JC Intal, Erik Menk, Sunday Salvacion, Ronald Tubid, Enrico Villanueva, Willie Wilson, Kevyn White, Celino Cruz, Billy Mamaril, Rich Alvarez, Doug Kramer, Cyrus Baguio! We are truly proud of you!

Intal Lifts Ginebra, Talk N Text Misses Outright Semis Spot, 105-82

JC Intal earned his 2nd straight Best Player of the Game recognition as he lifts Ginebra to a 105-82 win to grab a tie on the 3rd spot with Talk N Text Tropang Texters in the second round elimination of the KFC-PBA Philippine Cup.

The Kings literally outscored the Tropang Texters in their rally in the 4th quarter, JC Intal contributed 19 points, 8 rebounds with the game's highlight -- a 360 degree power dunk under 2 minutes of the game.

It was also at the 4th quarter when Mark Caguioa, Ginebra's topgunner (reactivated from the injure list) made the crowd jump from their seats as he scored 8points, 4 of which were assists from JC Intal and Erik Menk.

Ronald Tubid added 18 points, 12 from Enrico Villanueva and 10 from Erik Menk.

Talk N Text, the league's top scoring team, to the fans surprise, was held idle as they continue to miss baskets even at the last 2 minutes point of the game.

Sunday Salvacion and Kevyn White's three points were also the game's highlights.

Talk N Text's Jimmy Alapag contributed 17, Jason Castro with 15 and Harvey Carey with 12.

Ginebra's next assignment is Alaska Aces come January 9 Saturday, at the Batangas City Sports Complex.

WAG MAG RELAX PAG GINEBRA ANG KALABAN!

Last night's game is one that reminds me of the 90s! Very classic Ginebra game indeed! That is what I would normally utter to brag about my favorite team, WAG MAG RELAX PAG GINEBRA ANG KALABAN! And the never-say-die-spirit lives on.

Enrico Villanueva has not impressed me much ever since he joined Ginebra, for reasons I don't wish to elaborate. Oh well, last night, he gets like 10,000 pogi points when he made a follow-up shot with not more than 10 seconds remaining. 2 BEAUTIFUL POINTS to earn the lead at 99-97 over the shocked faces of Rain or Shine Elasto Painters who have conquered almost all 3 first quarters of the game. Then veteran Johnny Abbarientos made a steal and converted two bonus points in the free throw line to snatch the GinKings’ 101-97 come-from-behind victory against Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, Saturday night at the Tacloban Convention Center.

The Kings stayed calm despite Elasto Painters almost dominating the game. And displayed a never-say-die attitude until the last seconds of the game. They are now tied for 3rd place with Talk N Text and Purefoods with identical 8-4 win-loss cards.

Eric Menk was named Best Player of the Game. He contributed 21 points. Ronald Tubid and Sunday Salvacion scored 17 points apiece, Cyrus Baguio added 9 points and Rookie Kevyn White made his presence felt as he scored 8 points.

Gabe Norwood ended with 22 points.

I got the information about this charity concert about a week ago, a member of this family sent a group message, saying she was able to catch the advertisement via Brgy LS FM. I then had to confirm it with Tatay (Ginebra staff) and he gladly advised me of the much-needed details.

It was said that there'll be local bands playing, that there'll be a raffle for everyone, yadida-dida.. but the most delicious news there is, is that the Barangay Ginebra Kings will also be there for an autograph-signing of some sort! Weee! :)

So much for the pasa-calle. We went there, Aura, Patrice, Aryen and myself. Antipolo is not very far away from Manila. Just 45-60 mins travel time, I think. But it was all worth it. Ginebra will be there, too!!!

Thanks to Kuya Junjun, he accompanied us all the way to the backstage (whoa! Instant VIP access) where we saw our very own GinKings -- Ronald Tubid, Sunday Salvacion, Cyrus Baguio, Junjun Cabatu, Billy Mamaril, Rich Alvarez, JC Intal, Junthy Valenzuela and Mr. Furious himself, Mark Caguioa.

Too bad, we can't upload the pictures yet, for some reasons. But, we will, soon. As soon as possible, promise.

We actually didn't wait for them to go upstage, since we noticed that it is almost drizzling, we didn't bring umbrellas, we decided to go home as early as 6:30 PM.

It was all fun fun fun! :)

Unstoppable Ginebra Outshines Rain or Shine

Cyrus Baguio of the Barangay Ginebra Kings is KFC/Accel-PBA Press Corps' Player of the Week for the period Nov. 2 to 8. Congratulations Skyrus! :) Job well done!

Sa 2 magkasunod na games (vs Barako Bull at Rain or Shine), ipinakita ni Skyrus kung paano naaasahan ang isang tulad nya sa oras ng kagipitan. Sa tulong ng iba pang players ng mahal nating koponan gaya nila Ronald Tubid, William Wilson, Eric Menk, Sunday Salvacion, JC Intal, Celino Cruz, Billy Mamaril, pinatunayan ng Ginebra na hindi porket wala ang Fast and the Furious (Mark Caguioa at Jayjay Helterbrand dahil sa mga tinamong injury) ay basta na lang sila panghihinaan ng loob at susuko. Sapagkat ipinakita ng koponan kung gano sila dapat pangilagan sa pagpapatuloy ng PBA Phillipine Cup.

Sa laro kagabi, nagpakitang-gilas muli si Cyrus at niyakap ang sistema ni Coach Jong Uichico. Itinanghal din syang Best Player of the Game.

Samantala, nagpakitang-gilas ang mga bagong kabarangay na sina Celino Cruz, Rich Alvarez at Kevin White na sumikwat ng 10, 2 at 7 puntos ayon sa pagkakasunod-sunod.

Inaasahang kakikitaan pa ng mas mabangis na opensa at depensa ang Barangay Ginebra Kings sa pagpapatuloy ng liga sa pagbabalik ni Jayjay Helterbrand next game, vs Burger King sa isang out-of-town game.
